HIP HIP HOORAY…IT’S MOTHER’S DAY!

We could write a novel, nevermind a blog post, about how AMAZING Mothers are, and since there is little chance that we will be able to do Moms everywhere justice we’ll keep it short and sweet!

Moms, of all kinds, of all shapes and forms, both young, old and everything in between…thank you for giving us your love!  You really do make the world go around.

The team at The Crossing looks forward showing our love for all of you at our sold out Mother’s Day Brunch this Sunday!  What can we say, we ♥ Moms:)

Happy Mother’s Day!

The Art in Heart

One can not come to The Crossing without noticing the magnificent scenery, and although you may think this is a sole reference to the stunning natural surroundings, you are mistaken!

Not to be awed only by the exterior qualities of the property, The Crossing emminates beauty from the inside out!  With a love for art and a very close relationship with Reflections West Art, based in Calgary, we are honoured to be able to share a beautiful pieces of art with our guests. The Crossing is happy to provide a venue for these magnificient pieces to hang in light filled rooms allowing their true beauty to shine.  Many of our guests come to experience connection with nature but many walk away with a new found, or enchanced, connection to art. The best part is that most of the art featured at The Crossing is available for purchase!  Is there any better way to capture your stay, I think not!

Art really does have a connection to the heart in more ways than one.  The Crossing considers itself extremely lucky to be part of greater Cochrane; a community with a huge heart and one that supports and cultivates local art.  This weekend the Cochrane Art Club will be hosting its 53rd Show and Sale, if that isn’t art with heart than we don’t know what is!  Click on the link below to learn more about this weekend’s festivities and take time to enjoy the view both inside and out!

Enjoy the weekend!

So What Makes The Crossing Different?

We often ask ourselves, if we were company looking for a retreat or meeting space what would we want to know about The Crossing? Our internal dialogue usually goes something like this….

We are a conference and retreat facility in the beautiful foothills of the Rocky Mountains. So What?

So, we can accommodate small to mid-sized groups in quaint rooms with ensuites and indvidually selected antiques. Great, so what?

So, we offer convenient on-site delicious homemade meals. A lot of our competitors do, so what?

So, we’re just different! So what, prove it!

GLADLY!!!

There is something so intangible about this amazing place that it is often hard to find the words to accurately describe it without going into a soliloquy about the wonders of The Crossing! This week’s blog post is a challenge…we challenge you to come and visit us, take a site tour and not fall in love. Trust me, it is near impossible; I see innocent corporate planners and programmers swoon as they walk through the front door (that is if the picturesque drive hasn’t already convinced them). It may not be fair that we sweeten the pot by incorporating your site visit with homemade cookies and cakes but that is just our style, welcoming and hospitable. Our team is second to none; they are genuine and kind hearted. I also challenge you to not have the urge to hug them when you leave, they tend to have that effect on people.

You will quickly see that there is something ‘special’, ’unique’ and ‘charmingly quaint’ about being at The Crossing. It sneaks up on you like the delicious aromas that waft from our kitchen! Where else can you take your team to learn and truly be secluded in nature but with all the modern day conveniences? Where else can you go where you have the ability to be the only guests allowing complete and utter privacy and concentration? Where else can you head to the living room in your jeans and have a glass of wine by the fire only to come to the realization that the amazing conversation you have been having is with your colleague and happens to have absolutely nothing to do with work? These are the types of things that The Crossing can offer; we provide the opportunity for connection.

To learn more about how you and your team can connect at The Crossing please feel free to call us at 403-932-3392. We would love to learn how we can help create your perfect Crossing experience.

Enjoy the weekend!

April Showers (or snow if you are in Alberta) Bring May Flowers

Always optimistic, as per our last post heading, spring is in the air and we are sticking to it!  This week’s feature picture may say otherwise but know that it was taken on Wednesday admist the lovely rain/snow that travelled our way.  Today those grey clouds, cold winds, and driving sleet are a distant memory; the skies are filled with glorious sunshine!

As the weeks pass The Crossing comes more and more to life!  Thanks to Trevor Stewart and his team, the new decks, railings and portico are just about finished and looking fantastic!  These projects are a major improvement not only to the aesthetic of the buildings, their structure, but also in providing better accessibitly via the newly constructed ramps, expanded deck areas, and additional stairs to access the lower levels.  We love working with and supporting members of our community.  If you are looking for someone to help out with some renovations take a minute and visit Trevor’s site www.trevorstewart.ca

Now that most people can drive to and from work in daylight, there seems to a be a new found engery that comes with this time of year.  This is the perfect time to get your team out of the city and into the country.  There is no comparison between ice breakers and team building being done in the boardroom vs, at The Crossing.  Take advantage of the spring in your team’s step (pun intented) and invest in what The Crossing experience can do for your corporate retreat!  Select spring and summer months are starting to book up so make sure to call and inquire about available dates!

All the best and enjoy the beautiful weekend!

Community Connection!

Out here at The Crossing it’s all about connection, and what better way to connect than to do so through our community!

This week the cozy main floor of Remington House played host to our friends and neighbours in what is turning out to be an annual community dinner.  It is a great way to stay connected to the community, share information, and visit with friends.  Not to mention the opportunity to show off in the kitchen, just a little bit, which no one seemed to object to!  As promised Chef Ghanam and his team prepared nothing short of a feast, which left all of us eyeing up the comfy couches post indulgence.

We were so pleased with the turn out as sometimes we don’t always get to visit as much as we would like. When you are sitting on 145 beautiful acres it is a bit of a walk to borrow a cup of sugar.

As the evening progressed tours of the buildings were provided which allowed for us to share the numerous projects and upgrades that had been completed in the past year.  I am happy to report that all of the hard work is paying off and we received glowing reviews!

It was a fantastic opportunity to break bread, share stories, and have a few laughs!  The local community means so much to The Crossing and we look forward to continuing to develope opportunities which create connection and give back.  The conversations from this dinner allow us to get a better insight into what the community needs and how we can be a part of that.

It was a great night where the hugs outnumered the handshakes and The team at The Crossing would like to thank everyone for coming; we look forward to seeing everyone again soon!

Spring Is In The Air!

At The Crossing it is hard to imagine anything better than branches heavy with fresh snow, a wood burning fire in the hearth, the scent of homemade cider in the air, and a peaceful winter calm in the river valley but there is… a wonderful spring!

Spring is a time for renewal, regrowth, and rejuvenation, and although we know that winter will likely show its affection a few more times (we are in Alberta after all), the winds of change are in the air!   There are so many great things happening at The Crossing I don’t even know where to start….

The team has been working very hard to complete a hefty list of upgrades and improvements!  The first, and soon to be completed, can be noticed immediately as you step out of your car and are welcomed by a beautiful new portico entrance and decked pathway leading right to the front door.  In addition, all new deck work has been completed connecting the Remington and Deere Houses.  We have enlarged our outdoor living space to create a more enjoyable experience for our guests.

As you venture inside you will notice many subtle, yet charming changes starting on the main floor.  Three new washrooms have been constructed where one once stood, beautiful antique furniture has been purchased and disbursed throughout the buildings including the bedrooms, a number of the ensuite bathrooms have been upgraded and retiled, new bed linens, the list goes on and on!

Not to be outdone by any of the building and aesthetic upgrades, Chef Ghanam and his team have released their Spring Menus!  I can guarantee that after one read you will be looking for multiple reasons to come out to The Crossing and feast on the culinary fare!

It has been a very busy start to 2012 and we couldn’t be happier about it!  There are so many other great things happening here at The Crossing but it wouldn’t be any fun if I spilled all the beans at once so check back next week to find out more!
